This community was shocked last Sunday night when the news was heralded that Anton Subic had passed away at his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound caused by despondency over ill health of long endurance [sic; duration?]

For many years, Tony, as he was familiarly known to his host of friends throughout the community, operated the Big Piney Blacksmith and Welding Shop, and was always in jovial spirits and held in high esteem by all with whom he came in contact.

Anton Subic, Sr. was born in Jugoslavia [Yugoslavia], and came to the United States in 1909*, having come to Big Piney in 1914. Mr. and Mrs. Subic were married in 1922, and he is survived by his wife Theresa; three daughters, Mrs. Alvin Pearson (Theresa Rose) of Big Piney, Mrs. G.L. Van Beveren (Amelia) of North Hollywood, California, Mrs. Kenneth Guio (Frances Margaret) of Big Piney; one son, Anton, Jr. of Big Piney; and seven grandchildren.

He was 72 years of age, his birth date being June 9, 1888.

Funeral services are being conducted this afternoon at the St Anne's Catholic Church.

The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved wife and family.

Interment will be in the Big Piney Cemetery.

Tanner Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

*Immigration documents give the date as 1889.
