Dr. August Ferdinand Schoen, a resident of this city for over half a century, died Tuesday morning at Beaver Dam after a lingering illness of heart trouble at the age of 76 years.

The deceased was born in Germany on August 12th, 1850, a son of Ferd. and Dorothy Schoen, nee Darge. He came to this city with his parents in the year 1863 and shortly after entered as an apprentice in the R. Sauerhering drug store. Later he went to Chicago where he conducted a drug store. During the big Chicago fire his place of business was burned and he came to this city and opened up a drug store which he conducted up to a few weeks ago. In 1883 he graduated from Rush medical college at Chicago.

In the year 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Owen of Chicago, who preceded him in death seven years ago. He is survived by the following sons: Walter at Milwaukee; Roland and Bertram at Beaver Dam; Reginald at Markesan and August who is somewhere in the south. His only daughter, the late Mrs. Robt. Hamm, preceded the father in death a little over a year ago. He also leaves three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Otto Benz, of this city.

Funeral services will be held at Beaver Dam after which his remains will be taken to Milwaukee for cremation. His ashes will be interred in Graceland cemetery.

Dr. Schoen was born in Germany on August 12th 1850, and came to this country with his parents in 1863. Beaver Dam Argus March 4, 1926

Dr. August Ferdinand Schoen, our well-known doctor and fellow citizen, who was famously known far and wide as a skillful and conscientious doctor, passed away Tuesday morning at 3:15 a.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Beaver Dam where he has been receiving medical treatment from his son Dr. R. E. Schoen since Friday, February 12th. Dr. Schoen had been in fairly good health until about a year ago, having recovered from a successful operation for a growth in his back, but with the death of his only daughter Gertrude, Mrs. Robert Hamm, who died a year ago March 1st, her father was almost consumed with grief and a heart condition set in, which got worse day by day and ultimately led to his death, despite all the care. Dr. A. F. Schoen was born August 12, 1850 the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Schoen in the province of Brandenburg, Germany and reached 75 years, six months and 20 days of age. In 1863, at the age of 13 years, he came to America with his parents where the family settled in Mayville, where he grew to manhood. He later studied pharmacy and opened a pharmacy in Chicago, which he ran for several years, then graduated as a doctor from Rush Medical College in Chicago, whereupon he returned to Mayville in 1883, opened a pharmacy and established himself as a doctor. On September 17, 1871, he married Miss Margaret Ann Owen in Chicago, to which marriage were born nine children, four of whom died. His wife preceded him in death December 20, 1920. He leaves behind five sons as follows: Walter Schoen of Milwaukee; Dr. Roland E. Schoen of Beaver Dam; Reginald O. Schoen of Markesan; August Schoen, jun., of Canada and Bertram Schoen of Beaver Dam.
