Bert Leroy Atwood Jr., son of Bert L. Atwood Sr. and Bertha (Holthe) Atwood, was born January 2, 1920 on a farm near Granite, IA. As a child he moved with his family to Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Washington High School.

Bert was united in marriage with Vera Fullwiler on July 16, 1943 near Reading, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Over the years Bert worked at Andy C. Thompson Ford Garage, Ulberg Garage, Jordan Millwork and Helgerson Oil Company before retiring in 1982.

Bert was a member of East Side Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Vera; two sons, Wayne Atwood, Cherokee, IA, Larry Atwood, Sioux Falls, SD; three brothers, Harley Atwood, Sioux Falls, SD, Mearl Atwood and his wife, Elva, Sioux Falls, SD, John Atwood and his wife, Pat, Des Moines, IA; one sister, Evelyn Weidenbach, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bert was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys; his parents; two brothers, Ray Atwood, Palmer Atwood; and two sisters, Lavada Baker and Ida Tidwell.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the committal service.
