Homer Danwood Hutchison, age 94, son of Homer Miller Hutchison and Dina (Asche) Hutchison was born on October 16, 1919 in Cordova, Maryland. He died at the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Mo, on June 17, 2014.


Homer is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Evangeline Hutchison; his parents, twelve siblings; a son, Lee Brian Hutchison; and a daughter, Nancy Victoria Hutchison.


He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Eaton of Poway, CA and Cynthia Hutchison of Prairie Village, KS; seven grandchildren (Julie, Patrick, Bryant, Mark, Todd, Vanessa and Lee) and ten great grandchildren (Robert, Alexis, Isabel, Olivia, Abigail, Skylar, Clover, Aidyn. Eisley and Indy).


Homer grew up in the country near Queen Ann, Maryland, a middle child of thirteen children. He joined the Navy in 1939 at 19 years of age. His salary was $21 per month. Homer took part in the invasion of France during WWII and served as a corpsman in the Korean Conflict and three tours as a medic during the Viet Nam War. His military service included postings in Virginia, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Northern Ireland, England, France, California, Korea, Washington, aboard the USS Point Defiance, Okinawa, Hawaii, Viet Nam, New York, Iceland and Tennessee.


Homer married Bernice in 1945, when she was in the Army and he was a young sailor. Homer retired from the Navy on November 18, 1972. He then moved his family to a farm in the country between Houston and Cabool, Missouri. Homer liked the country side and life on a farm. He loved to have a garden and enjoyed raising his own food. Homer and Bernice loved to travel in their motor home, especially to Florida in the winter.
