"HANSEN.--Victor Martin Hansen was born in 1897. He died July 28, 1968 in La Sierra, Calif. He was a former minister of the La Sierra Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a missionary worker in China from 1917 to 1937, and a minister of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination for the past 30 years in the United States."

"Victor Martin Hansen, Sr.:
Victor Hansen grew up on a farm in Iowa with his five siblings. While still in his teens he went to China to be with his sister Mary and her husband who were missionaries there. He worked in the mission in various capacities. Education records show his attendance at San Fernando Academy 1913-1916 and Union College in 1920.
After his marriage to Letha Butka they took a few months of medical training before leaving for China. Their son and daughter were both born there and returned with them on furlough to the United States in 1929. The next year they attended Pacific Union College where they both received their college degrees. Upon returning to China many of the following years were spent in Nanning, west of Canton near the border of Vietnam (French Indo-China). From the mission compound there they often left to spend two or three months in one or another of the villages along the river where they would hold evangelistic meetings. For a short time Victor filled in at the mission hospital for the doctor who was on furlough.
Returning to the United States in 1937 he studied for a year at the California College of Medical Technicians to become a medical technician and for several years did all the laboratory and x-ray work for Letha?s brother Lawrence in Alhambra, California. Later they joined her brothers Hersel and Leslie in Pomona.
In later years they worked full time producing slide sets illustrating sermons and Bible studies, and provided them at very low cost to anyone needing them. These sets were translated and modified for a number of countries including China and Africa. Their dedication to furthering the Lord?s work continued until cancer claimed their lives.
Victor and Letha both loved people, especially young people. For several years they had various grandchildren and others living with them. Victor was loving and affectionate, nonjudgmental and a real peacemaker who was loved by everyone."

FAMILY REUNION
Dr. and Mrs. Hersel E. Butka and children, Brenda and Gary, attended a family reunion hold at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hubert O. Swartout of Arroyo Grande over the weekend of Nov. 15 and 16. Mrs. Swartout is a sister of Dr. Butka. Dr. Swartout is county health officer of San Luis Obispo county and a former health officer of Los Angeles county. Dr. Butka's mother, who is 87 years old, makes her home with the Swartouts. Others present were Dr. Leslie Butka of Pomona, and Elder and Mrs. V. M. Hansen of Arlington, Mrs. Hansen is also a sister of the Drs. Butka; Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Butka and son, Kenneth, of Arcadia, also attended, Kenneth will be leaving this week to begin service with the armed forces. Before returning to Camino, the Butkas also called on Dr. and Mrs. Jack Elvin of Grover City.

"Victor Martin Hansen, Sr.:
Victor Hansen grew up on a farm in Iowa with his five siblings. While still in his teens he went to China to be with his sister Mary and her husband who were missionaries there. He worked in the mission in various capacities. Education records show his attendance at San Fernando Academy 1913-1916 and Union College in 1920.
After his marriage to Letha Butka they took a few months of medical training before leaving for China. Their son and daughter were both born there and returned with them on furlough to the United States in 1929. The next year they attended Pacific Union College where they both received their college degrees. Upon returning to China many of the following years were spent in Nanning, west of Canton near the border of Vietnam (French Indo-China). From the mission compound there they often left to spend two or three months in one or another of the villages along the river where they would hold evangelistic meetings. For a short time Victor filled in at the mission hospital for the doctor who was on furlough.
Returning to the United States in 1937 he studied for a year at the California College of Medical Technicians to become a medical technician and for several years did all the laboratory and x-ray work for Letha?s brother Lawrence in Alhambra, California. Later they joined her brothers Hersel and Leslie in Pomona.
In later years they worked full time producing slide sets illustrating sermons and Bible studies, and provided them at very low cost to anyone needing them. These sets were translated and modified for a number of countries including China and Africa. Their dedication to furthering the Lord?s work continued until cancer claimed their lives.
Victor and Letha both loved people, especially young people. For several years they had various grandchildren and others living with them. Victor was loving and affectionate, nonjudgmental and a real peacemaker who was loved by everyone."

Dr. and Mrs. Hersel E. Butka and children, Brenda and Gary, attended a family reunion hold at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hubert O. Swartout of Arroyo Grande over the weekend of Nov. 15 and 16. Mrs. Swartout is a sister of Dr. Butka. Dr. Swartout is county health officer of San Luis Obispo county and a former health officer of Los Angeles county. Dr. Butka's mother, who is 87 years old, makes her home with the Swartouts. Others present were Dr. Leslie Butka of Pomona, and Elder and Mrs. V. M. Hansen of Arlington, Mrs. Hansen is also a sister of the Drs. Butka; Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Butka and son, Kenneth, of Arcadia, also attended, Kenneth will be leaving this week to begin service with the armed forces. Before returning to Camino, the Butkas also called on Dr. and Mrs. Jack Elvin of Grover City.

"Victor Martin Hansen, Sr.:
Victor Hansen grew up on a farm in Iowa with his five siblings. While still in his teens he went to China to be with his sister Mary and her husband who were missionaries there. He worked in the mission in various capacities. Education records show his attendance at San Fernando Academy 1913-1916 and Union College in 1920.
After his marriage to Letha Butka they took a few months of medical training before leaving for China. Their son and daughter were both born there and returned with them on furlough to the United States in 1929. The next year they attended Pacific Union College where they both received their college degrees. Upon returning to China many of the following years were spent in Nanning, west of Canton near the border of Vietnam (French Indo-China). From the mission compound there they often left to spend two or three months in one or another of the villages along the river where they would hold evangelistic meetings. For a short time Victor filled in at the mission hospital for the doctor who was on furlough.
Returning to the United States in 1937 he studied for a year at the California College of Medical Technicians to become a medical technician and for several years did all the laboratory and x-ray work for Letha?s brother Lawrence in Alhambra, California. Later they joined her brothers Hersel and Leslie in Pomona.
In later years they worked full time producing slide sets illustrating sermons and Bible studies, and provided them at very low cost to anyone needing them. These sets were translated and modified for a number of countries including China and Africa. Their dedication to furthering the Lord?s work continued until cancer claimed their lives.
Victor and Letha both loved people, especially young people. For several years they had various grandchildren and others living with them. Victor was loving and affectionate, nonjudgmental and a real peacemaker who was loved by everyone."

Dr. and Mrs. Hersel E. Butka and children, Brenda and Gary, attended a family reunion hold at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hubert O. Swartout of Arroyo Grande over the weekend of Nov. 15 and 16. Mrs. Swartout is a sister of Dr. Butka. Dr. Swartout is county health officer of San Luis Obispo county and a former health officer of Los Angeles county. Dr. Butka's mother, who is 87 years old, makes her home with the Swartouts. Others present were Dr. Leslie Butka of Pomona, and Elder and Mrs. V. M. Hansen of Arlington, Mrs. Hansen is also a sister of the Drs. Butka; Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Butka and son, Kenneth, of Arcadia, also attended, Kenneth will be leaving this week to begin service with the armed forces. Before returning to Camino, the Butkas also called on Dr. and Mrs. Jack Elvin of Grover City.

"Victor Martin Hansen, Sr.:
Victor Hansen grew up on a farm in Iowa with his five siblings. While still in his teens he went to China to be with his sister Mary and her husband who were missionaries there. He worked in the mission in various capacities. Education records show his attendance at San Fernando Academy 1913-1916 and Union College in 1920.
After his marriage to Letha Butka they took a few months of medical training before leaving for China. Their son and daughter were both born there and returned with them on furlough to the United States in 1929. The next year they attended Pacific Union College where they both received their college degrees. Upon returning to China many of the following years were spent in Nanning, west of Canton near the border of Vietnam (French Indo-China). From the mission compound there they often left to spend two or three months in one or another of the villages along the river where they would hold evangelistic meetings. For a short time Victor filled in at the mission hospital for the doctor who was on furlough.
Returning to the United States in 1937 he studied for a year at the California College of Medical Technicians to become a medical technician and for several years did all the laboratory and x-ray work for Letha?s brother Lawrence in Alhambra, California. Later they joined her brothers Hersel and Leslie in Pomona.
In later years they worked full time producing slide sets illustrating sermons and Bible studies, and provided them at very low cost to anyone needing them. These sets were translated and modified for a number of countries including China and Africa. Their dedication to furthering the Lord?s work continued until cancer claimed their lives.
Victor and Letha both loved people, especially young people. For several years they had various grandchildren and others living with them. Victor was loving and affectionate, nonjudgmental and a real peacemaker who was loved by everyone."

FAMILY REUNION
Dr. and Mrs. Hersel E. Butka and children, Brenda and Gary, attended a family reunion hold at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hubert O. Swartout of Arroyo Grande over the weekend of Nov. 15 and 16. Mrs. Swartout is a sister of Dr. Butka. Dr. Swartout is county health officer of San Luis Obispo county and a former health officer of Los Angeles county. Dr. Butka's mother, who is 87 years old, makes her home with the Swartouts. Others present were Dr. Leslie Butka of Pomona, and Elder and Mrs. V. M. Hansen of Arlington, Mrs. Hansen is also a sister of the Drs. Butka; Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Butka and son, Kenneth, of Arcadia, also attended, Kenneth will be leaving this week to begin service with the armed forces. Before returning to Camino, the Butkas also called on Dr. and Mrs. Jack Elvin of Grover City.
7-28-1968: Victor Martin Hansen, Sr. died of cancer July 28, 1968 in Loma Linda, San Bernardino County, California, according to Montecito Cemetery.
He is buried at Montecito Cemetery at 24145 Barton Road, Loma Linda, San Bernardino County, California 92354 -- physically in Colton, San Bernardino County, California in Space 4, Section 53, of Grandview, with his wife who joined him about a year later. Their joint marker says, "HANSEN, Victor M., 1896-1968 / Letha B., 1901-1969."
SDA Obituary: "HANSEN.--Victor Martin Hansen was born in 1897. He died July 28, 1968 in La Sierra, Calif. He was a former minister of the La Sierra Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a missionary worker in China from 1917 to 1937, and a minister of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination for the past 30 years in the United States."
