"JOSEPH R. BUCKEL, 63, of Bittinger, died in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. Born in Bittinger, he was a son of the late Oliver C. BUCKEL and Ruth (SHOUP) BUCKEL. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church; an Army veteran of World War II and Purple Heart recipient. He served as secretary of WOW Camp 68 for more than 20 years; past president of the Maryland State WOW; member of Oakland VFW, and had been postmaster of Bittinger and was formerly owner and operator of Buckel's Store.

Surviving: His widow, Mrs. Rosina (MILLINGTON) BUCKEL, three sons, including Philip K. BUCKEL, Accident; three brothers, Herbert B. BUCKEL, Ralph L. BUCKEL, both of Bittinger and Kenneth BUCKEL, Grantsville and four grandchildren.

Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, handled the funeral. Services were conducted from the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. David ROCKWOOD, and the Rev. William CARLSON officiating. Interment was in the Bittinger cemetery."
