Soviet pop singer and composer, brother of composer Yury Martynov. His father, a commander of an infantry platoon, returned disabled from the war, the mother was a nurse at the front. After 5 years the family moved to the Donbas city Donetsk. he showed early aptitude for music, and his father taught him to play first on the accordion , and then on the accordion. He graduated from the Music College Artyomovskoye in class clarinet. In 1967 he entered the Kiev Conservatory Tchaikovsky, but was soon transferred to Donetsk Stalin Music Institute (now Conservatory of Prokofiev), who finished ahead of schedule in 1971, as a clarinetist. In 1972 in Moscow as a composer, he met Maya Kristalinskaya who first sang his song "Birch" on poems by Yesenin and introduced the young composer to the public in at the theater stage. In the same year on national television voiced song "My Love" performed by Gulli Chokheli. Since 1973, he lived in Moscow and worked first in the State Concert Association "Roskontsert" (soloists), and then in publishing "The Young Guard" and "The Truth" (music editor and consultant). Member of the Union of Soviet Composers in 1984. performed by the outstanding Soviet Martynov singers 1970-1980-ies - Sofia Rotaru, Joseph Kobzon, Anna Herman, Vadim Mulerman, Alexander Serov, George Minassian, Maria Codreanu, Michael Chuev, Edward Gil and others.
