AVILTON,MARYLAND -- Ronald Thomas Hetz, 71, of Avilton, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.

Born Sept. 13, 1939, in Avilton, he was the son of the late Clarence and Nancy (Garlitz) Hetz. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Robert Hetz.

Mr. Hetz was a laborer for McKenzie Brothers Sawmill and Catholic by faith. He enjoyed hunting and reading history, especially about World War I and World War II. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Cadwallader) Hetz; a son, Scott Hetz, Friendsville; a daughter, Dawn Bodes, Salisbury, Pa.; a step-daughter, Lisa Iannuzzi, Midlothian, Va.; a sister, Mary Hott, Frostburg; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Ed Hendricks officiating.

Interment will be in St. Ann Cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
