Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of the late Hilon J. and Alice McCarthy Hendershott.
He was married to the late Jacqueline Kranz Hendershott.
Surviving are four daughters, Jacqueline, married to Ronald J. Malec of Leola, Jane, married to John Brock of Oceanport, N.J., Susan, married to Kevin O'Callaghan of Stonebrook, N.Y., and Patricia, married to Brian Bernhard of Massapequa, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph J.
