Howard J. Barth, 68, 511 South Michigan, died Saturday afternoon at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Barth was born Aug. 27, 1911 in Versailles, the son of Edward and Clara (Little) Barth. He was married to Bernice Smith Feb. 10, 1940 in Corydon, and she survives. They had resided in Greensburg over 20 years.

Mr. Barth was a 1938 civil engineering graduate of Purdue, where he was a member of Theta Tau, a professional engineering fraternity. he was a registered professional engineer licensed in Kentucky and Indiana, and a land surveyor. joining the O.W. Holmes firm in 1954, he had changed the name to the Howard J. Barth Associates about 1960, after the death of Holmes. His son Stephen, joined his father in 1969 and became a partner in 1972 when he received his degree in registered professional engineering. Mr. Barth had retired from Howard J. Barth and Associates in 1978.

He was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church where he had served on the administrative board. He was a member of the Versailles Lodge No. 7, F & AM, where he was a past master, and had designed the Masonic Home. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, the County Scottish Rite of Decatur County, where he was a past president, the Royal Arch of Milan and the Knights of Pythias. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

In addition to the widow, survivors include the son, Stephen Barth, Greensburg; a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Ann) Oak, Madison, Miss.; five grandchildren: Wendy and Alan Oak, Madison, Miss., and Troy, Lisa and Drew Barth, Greensburg; and one sister, Helen Straub, Cincinnati.

The services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Chattin, pastor of the Greensburg United Methodist Church, officiating, and with burial in the Olean Cemetery south of Versailles, where graveside rites will be held.
