Karl Johan Persson Fohlin, one of the highly respected pioneer settlers of this community, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.V. Anderson, Friday, April 30, 1915, at the ripe old age of 83 years, 8 months and 13 days.
He was born August 17, 1831 in Västra Harg, Östergötland, Sweden, and was baptized and confirmed in Sweden. He came to America April 25, 1889, residing six months at Dayton, after that near and in Stratford. He was united in marriage to Chatherina Charlotta Andersdotter on June 28, 1857, who died September 24, 1894, and was buried in Swede Bend Cemetery. Six children were born to this union, two of whom died in Sweden.
Those living are A.J. and C.F. Fohlin and Mrs. Ida Anderson of Stratford and Mrs. Emily Johnson of Dayton. Besides these he leavees eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, besides other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his passing away.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.V. Anderson, conducted by Rev. C.E. Callerstrom, pastor of the Lutheran church, who used for his text Luke 10:21. A large number of friends gathered at the home to pay a parting tribute to the departed friend. The remains were laid to rest in the Swede Bend Cemetery.
