As 41-year old "Elena Rephun" she came to America on board the ship Lituania arriving in New York 5 March 1908. Sailing with her was her husband Karl, 42 and children Johana, 16, David 12, Gotlieb, 9, Christian, 7, Elisabeth, 5, and Johan, 3. At least one child, Charles Fredrick had immigrated previously.

In the 1920 census, Carl, wife "Helen" and sons "Christ" and John resided in Rich Township, Lapeer County, Michigan. She had no occupation, could read but not write. German was her native language.

In 1930, Carl and "Helena," both age 63, resided with their son Charles, his wife, and 13 children in the same township. Helena stated she had come to America 1907 and was still an alien. She could speak English but could not read and write it. German was her native language. She had no occupation.
