Bill entered the U.S. Marine Corps in November of 1952 and served overseas as an intelligence officer during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge in November of 1955, Bill returned to work with his parents on the family farm.
Bill was united in marriage with Inge Huntke on November 11, 1956 in Trosky, MN. The couple lived on the family farm before moving to Canton, SD. The family moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1963.
Bill began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1966. He advanced through several positions during his 28 years of service, most notably Director of Mail Processing in Sioux Falls and Postmaster in Brookings, SD. Bill retired in 1993.
Bill was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, and AARP. He enjoyed fixing things around the house and taking family vacations in Northern Minnesota. Above all, Bill cherished his wife and daughters and loved spending time with them.
Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara; his parents; and three sisters.
Bill’s family requests that memorials be directed to Grace Lutheran Church.
