Lucille Curry Smithwick, affectionately called Bunny, soared to heaven on August 21, 2011. She was born on November 20, 1917 in Dilworth. She was the fifth child born to Ella Sauer Curry and Ralph Melvin Curry. The family later moved to Rowena and Lucille graduated from Ballinger High School.
In January 1936 she married W. C. Smithwick and they spent 58 years together. He preceeded her in death on September 1, 1994. In her years in Miles she was involved with the Fireman's Auxiliary, PTA, all school and community functions and her church.
Lucille loved the outdoors. She loved to fish and hunt. One hunting season she boasted of killing the biggest buck in Mason County. She was a wonderful cook. Her pecan pie and oatmeal macaroons cannot be duplicated. She loved spending time at the Senior Citizens Center in Miles and prided herself on usually making it to the head table playing 42. She loved the people of Miles and had great pride in calling this her home.
Lucille was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles and her memorial service will be held there at 10:00 on Wednesday August 24th. A private committal will be held before the service in the Miles Cemetery. Pastor Chester McCown will conduct the service.
Lucille loved and supported her family. She was the last of her siblings to pass away. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Curry. Sisters Aileen Pieper, Dora Tankersly, Lillian Weiss, Fairy Pfluger, Mildred Trantham and Dorothy Curry.
She is survived by one son Jerome, his wife Billie, granddaughter Lori and grandson Kyle, his wife Julie, three special great grandchildren, Regan, Dawson, and Curry. One special sister-in-law Ruby Smithwick, and dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thank you to all the staff and caregivers at Trisun Care Center Meadow Creek where she had been a resident for the past seven years.
Rest in peace dear Bunny.
