He is a Founder of the St. Peter Lutheran Church. In 1896, he and 16 other men secured the services of Rev. R. Osthoff of Trinity Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod of the Trinity Hill community to preach one Sunday per month. Since October 11, 1896, worship services were held every 4 weeks at the schoolhouse in Plum. As of January 1901, the St. Petri Congregation was formed.

He and Katherine were the first couple married in the newly formed congregation. They were married on January 24, 1901 in their newly built home. Although construction of St. Peter Lutheran Church began in 1900, it was not completed until 1901 with it's dedication held on February 24, 1901.
