Eppler died Jan. 20, 2002, at a local hospital.
He was born Aug. 4, 1923, in Stonewall, Okla., where he was raised and educated.
Eppler was the assistant manager of the Fort Hood Commissary Annex from 1973 to 1983.
He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War before he retired in 1972 with 30 years of service in the U.S. Army.
His military awards and decorations included the Silver Star, the Bronze Star Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with an oak leaf cluster, the WWII Victory Medal, the Army Occupation Medal-Germany, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, six awards of the Good Conduct Medal, the third award of the Combat Infantryman Badge and four letters of commendations. He served in the Vietnam Summer-Fall Campaign in 1969 and the Winter-Spring Campaign in 1970.
Eppler had lived in the Killeen area for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Eleonore Eppler of Killeen; a daughter, Theresa Ybarra of Harker Heights; two sisters, Loretta Summers of Ada, Okla., and Louise Paul of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Eppler was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
