Sister Maria Meinolfa Weiss was born Dec. 24, 1910, in Schwand bei Braunau, Austria, to Mathias Weiss and Anna Permanschlager. She died at LaVerna Heights in Savannah on April 21, 1997.
Sister Meinolfa entered the congregation of the School Sisters of St. Francis in Vocklabruck, Austria, in 1933, and made her profession of vows on Jan. 5, 1936. She generously responded to the call for sisters to serve in the United States, and came to St. Joseph Convent in Chillicothe, Mo., in 1937. She served her religious community and the people of God as a cook at St. Francis Convent and Conception Abbey in Conception, Mo.; at St. Francis Hospital in Marceline; and for 39 years at LaVerna Heights in Savannah.
She is survived by her brothers, Oskar Bommer, St. Johann im Pongau, Austria, and Hermann Bommer of Salsburg, Austria; a sister, Anna Bienenstock of Vienna, Austria; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.
Mass of Christian Burial was performed on April 24, 1997, in St. Francis Chapel at LaVerna Heights in Savannah. Burial was in the LaVerna Heights Cemetery.
Scripture Wake Service was held on April 23, in Madonna Hall at LaVerna. Services were under the direction of the Breit and Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah.
