Ernest L. Wilson Sr., 93, of Florida, and formerly of Metz, went to be with the Lord on Monday (June 13, 2011).

He was born May 10, 1918, in Rivesville, the son of the late Esta C. and Amy Wilson.

He served four years in the U.S. Army in World War II as first sergeant. He and his brother, Junior, had the first drive-in theater in Metz. They also had the Mannington TV, cabinet shop and Mannington Furniture store until he sold and moved to Florida in 1977. He was a member of Bible Methodist Church in Fairmont.

Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Waneta Maxine Wilson, of 69 years. He had five children, Ernest L. Wilson Jr. and wife Jan of Florida, Amy Jo Hall and husband Jerry of Michigan, Rebecca R. Simms and husband Eric of Metz, and Peter John Wilson and wife Ellen of Florida, and one son, William Terry Wilson, deceased.

He also loved and claimed as his own the three children of his late brother and business partner, Junior and wife Virginia, Jerry Sue Poland and husband Jim of Virginia, Margaret Wadsworth of Florida, and Calvin Wilson and wife Pam of Metz.

The love of his life was God, his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He loved fishing, gardening and helping others, and he loved everyone.

In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters, Esta C. (Junior) Wilson and William Wilson, Gertrude Davis, Lorraine Straight, Margaret Wilson and Maxine Wilson.

Friends and family may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Reverend Gary Brugger officiating. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Marion County Military Veterans Council Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
