Herbie was the son of Ernest and Leila (Johnson) Klumpp. Herbie Graduated from Shepherd High School in 1951. Shortly before graduation, the Marines called on him. He served in North Africa, served on the Marine Honor Guard, was an escort at the Pentagon, and played on the Marine football team. He met his future wife in Virginia, returned to Isabella County, Michigan, and married Clarice Jeannette Furchurt on February 6, 1954.
Herbie was a dairy farmer until 1970. He then worked at Hubscher Gravel Pit, Isabella Corporation, and retired from Morbark. Herbert enjoyed deer hunting with the boys, gardening, shuffleboard leagues, and wood working. He made hundreds of tables, chairs, stools, shelves, and wall hangings for family, relatives, and friends. If he had the pattern, he could make anything.
He loved football, especially the Spartans and the Lions, who were his favorite teams. He never missed any of his grandchildren's sporting events.
Herbie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeannette; son, Michael (Nancy) Klumpp; daughter, Cindy (Wade) Williams; the loves of his life, grandchildren, Lindsey and Tyler Williams and Ryan and Maggie Klumpp; sister-in-law, Lacretia Klumpp; many dear relatives and friends. He was a great father and grandfather, who will deeply be missed and forever loved.
Herbie was preceded in death by two infant children, Steven and Glendette; his parents Ernie and Leila Klumpp; four brothers, Kenneth, Orville, Ronald, and Dale Klumpp; and sister, Elsie.
