Reverend Durl Edwin Odom, age 84, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022. He was born on March 8, 1938, in Red Bay, Florida to I.E. "Buster" Odom and Gladys Gomillion Odom. Durl grew up in rural Walton County- Red Bay, Euchee Valley and Argyle until he left and proudly served his county in United States Air Force. He had several jobs over the years until he was called to serve the Lord and ordained in 1965. He was a pastor for over 50 years, touching many lives in the 18 churches he served. He retired the first time in 2003 and then again in 2015. He returned home in 1996, living in Argyle on the old home place for 22 years, before he and Pam relocated to town several years ago. He enjoyed preaching and was probably one of the best organized and prepared teachers when it came to special programs in the church. He always enjoyed dinner on the grounds after church and family reunions. One of his greatest passions was genealogy research and sharing stories with others. Photography and woodworking in his shop gave him great pleasure, and he also enjoyed reading, fishing, and working in his yard and garden. If someone in the community had a need, he was the first to offer assistance. He loved his family and always enjoyed spending time together. Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his parents I.E. "Buster" Odom and Gladys Gomillion Odom, sister Bonnie Odom Corman; brother Charles Odom and grandson Steven "Caleb" Johnson. Mr. Odom is survived by his wife of thirty years Pamela Cecil Odom of De Funiak Springs, Florida; children Deborah Odom Lee (RJ) of Smyrna, Tennessee, Karen Odom Johnson(Donald) of Murfreesboro, TN, Christopher Odom(Vonda) of Savannah, GA, Robert Odom(Heather) of Franklin, TN; one brother Thomas "Buddy" Odom (Cathy) of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; grandchildren Angela, Amy, Zane, Kayla, Cole, Carson, Chelsey, Emmaline, Emerson, and Emberly; eleven great-grandchildren; and host of extended family and friends. A time of visitation will be held from 6-8PM, Friday, July 1, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church in DeFuniak Springs; 1063 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32435. Funeral Services will be held at 10AM, Saturday, July 2022 at First Presbyterian Church in DeFunaiks Springs, with Reverends Steven Rhodes and Rodney Infinger officiating with Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
