Dr. Merrill Lindsay
Dr. Merrill Kirk Lindsay, 76, of New Haven, Conn., formerly of Topeka, died Tuesday in a New Haven hospital after an illness of about a year.
The son of Dr. William Sharp Lindsay and Mrs. Helen Smith Lindsay, he was born May 20, 1884, in Topeka. He attended the University of Kansas and Kansas Medical College. He received the M.D. degree at Columbia University in 1939 and was graduated from the Army Medical School in 1922. He also did graduate work in orthopedic surgery at Harvard University.
He and Mary Louise Ryan were married Jan. 25, 1914.
After engaging in private practice in Topeka 15 years he moved to New Haven, Conn., where he taught surgery at Yale University. He served overseas in World War I and later was stationed in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Lindsay was the author of numerous medical articles, a member of various medical societies and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Lindsay, and a son, Merrill Kirk Lindsay, both of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. Jean Baxter of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Lois Stahl, 3300 W. 29th, and Mrs. Helen Hughes of Long Beach, Calif.
Services and cremation will be at New Haven, Conn. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Hope Cemetery at Topeka.
