Robert Spindler "Bob" Wilcox, 86, of Council Bluffs, passed away June 28, 2008, at his summer home in Spirit Lake, IA.
Robert was born in Council Bluffs on Dec. 24, 1921, to Glen and Esther Wilcox. He attended the old Oak Street School, Abraham Lincoln High School and the University of California at Los Angeles. During WW-II, he served in Europe as a photographer with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After the war, he was a film editor with Technicolor in Los Angeles before returning to Iowa as a partner of J.F. Wilcox and Sons, the pioneering Council Bluffs greenhouse and wholesale florist business founded by his grandfather.
Robert had served on the Council Bluffs School Board and had been a longtime member of the Rotary Club. He was secretary of the club for many years. He was a member of New Horizon Presbyterian Church. Robert was devoted to his wife and family and loved spending time with the family in Spirit Lake.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Lemen "Ginny" Wilcox, his parents, sister, Jeanne Pomeroy and brother John Wilcox.
He is survived by his three daughters; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodbury Funeral Home with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery with luncheon following at the Riverside Grille. Memorials suggested to N.W. Iowa Hospice.
