Irma Mae (Craig) Jones, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Joy Home in Oxford, Kansas at the age of 102.

Irma was born the daughter of Homer F. and Katie (Siebenthaler) Craig on Friday, January 22, 1909 in rural Eddy, Oklahoma.

She spent her high school years in Caldwell, Kansas and Winfield, Kansas where she graduated in 1927. Irma furthered her education at Emporia Teachers College and began her teaching career in 1928 near South Haven, Kansas. On March 5, 1933, Irma and Lem W. Jones were united in marriage in Wichita, Kansas. She attended college every summer at various schools such as Emporia, KU and graduated with a degree from Southwestern College in 1958. Irma taught school for 35 years total - 15 years at the Riverdale School and various other Sumner County schools; however, she spent her last 8 at the Wellington Junior High.

She was a proud member of many organizations throughout the years including the First Christian Church, Kappa Kappa Iota (National Teachers' Sorority & was a charter member in 1949), Wellington Area Association of Retired School Personnel, and National Education Association. Irma served for many years as Sumner County Democratic Chairwoman, Precinct Committee woman and on numerous state committees.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Jester and her husband Bill of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Sheryl Wind of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Stephen Jester of Dallas, Texas, Rebecca "Becky" Jester of Wellington, Kansas, Laura Schweikert and her husband Jim of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Christopher Jester and his wife Bridget of Kingman, Kansas, Eric Jester of Wichita, Kansas, Shayna Templeton of Wellington, Kansas, Emily Templeton of Wellington, Kansas, Zachary Schweikert of Phoenix, Arizona, Noah Schweikert of Phoenix, Arizona; great-great-grandson, Patton Jester of Kingman, Kansas; sister, Edna Francis of Great Bend, Kansas along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lem W. Jones; 2 sisters and 1 brother.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2011.

Funeral services for Irma will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011 in the chapel of Day Funeral Home, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas.

Interment will follow at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.

Memorials have been established in her loving memory with First Christian Church Youth, 123 West 9th, Wellington, Kansas 67152. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
