A daughter of Bernard Heinrich Duvendack and Maria Wobekind, Catherine Elizabeth Duvendack (found also as Catharine Marie) was born at Jeggen (near Wissingen) in Hanover, Germany. According to the record at the Evangelical-Lutheran at Schledehausen, Hanover, she married Johann Heinrich Bierbaum on October 24, 1822. She became the mother of six Bierbaum children, named below, born between 1825 and 1840. All children were born in Wissingen, Hanover, all lived to adulthood, and five of the six are buried in Clayton County, Iowa, as are Catherine and her husband.

BIERBAUM. At the residence of her son near Ceres, March 17, 1880, Mrs. Catharine Bierbaum, of old age. Aged 82 years 28 days. The deceased came to this country in 1847 and was highly esteemed by neighbors and friends, and her death will be mourned by all.
She leaves four sons and two daughters: G. H. and J. C. near Ceres, J. F. near Garnavillo and C. H. in Olmsted, Minnesota, Mrs. George Ziegler of Grand Meadow and Mrs. Hartwig of Clayton.
