Samuel Peter Anger was born on 30 Mar 1870 in St-Hugues, Bagot, Quebec as the twelfth child of Amable Anger and Margaret Breault. He had twelve siblings, namely:
- Joseph 1855
- Saul 1856-1856
- Saul 1857
- Marie Julie Albina 1858
- Hugues 1860
- Marie Louise Rose 1861
- Philomene 1863
- George Damian 1864
- unknown 1865-1865
- Louis 1867
- Augustin 1868
- Samuel Peter 1870
- Mary Louise 1872
The first 12 children were all born in Quebec. In March, 1872, at the age of 2, Samuel and his family immigrated to Putnam, Windham, Connecticut. The last child, Mary Louise, was born there. Later that same year his father Amable died, before the birth of Mary Louise. By 1880 he was 10 and living in St. Paul, Minnesota with his mother and 5 siblings.
When he was 20, he married Sophie Mary Bastien, daughter of Joseph John Violette dit Bastian and Rosalie Dufour, on 10 Jun 1890 at the St Louis King of France church in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota. Between 1891 and 1915, Samuel and Sophie had 12 children, 10 that survived early childhood. They were:
- Rosalie M. 1891
- John Alphonse 1892
- Albert Joseph 1895
- Lillian M. 1897
- Clemence C. 1900-1900
- Samuel David 1901
- Genevieve Sophia 1903
- Paul Raymond 1906
- Earl Francis 1908
- Clement Joseph 1910
- Sophie Margaret 1912
- Ralph C. 1915-1915
Two children died shortly after birth, Clement Charles (3 ½ months) and Ralph (5 days).
Samuel is listed as a shoemaker in the 1900 and 1910 census. The 1920 and 1930 census show him working for a coal company. By about 1933 Samuel, Sophie and their youngest son Clement had moved to Inglewood, Los Angeles, California. They appear to have followed their oldest John (Jack) out west. Jack and his wife Christine "Tena" are living in Spokane, Washington in 1920. By 1928 Jack & Tena are living in Inglewood. Samuel, Sophie and Clement showed up shortly thereafter, renting a house at 4951 W. 99th St, Inglewood, California. Inglewood was a town with a population of 30,114 in 1940. It has been said they moved to California because Sophie suffered from asthma. His wife Sophie died 31 Jan 1941 in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California. The 1950 Census shows Samuel at the age of 80 living with his oldest son John and his family. He is working 35 hours per week as a cashier at a parking lot.
Samuel and Sophie had 39 grandchildren, although they probably didn't spend much time with them after moving to California around 1933. Only five of the grandchildren lived in California and it doesn't appear they ever traveled back to Minnesota. After his wife's death, Samuel lived another 14 years as a widower. He died on 27 Jan 1955 in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery with his wife Sophie.
