Richard David Bradley II was born on 2 September 1858 in Pittsburgh (Allegheny Co.), PA, to Richard David Bradley I and Helena Geason. His father worked at Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill, where his son also got his start, but his mother longed to return to the farm life she had loved, and the family eventually homesteaded in Camden County, MO, where Richard II married his first wife, Alice Jane Thomas.

Richard Bradley II was not cut out to be a farmer, and he eventually left Missouri to work in Belleville, IL in the steel industry there. He and Alice had three children before divorcing -- Lula Mae, Jeanette (Nettie), and Irvin Bradley. Both Richard and Alice eventually remarried. Richard married Mary Magdalena Adams on April 8, 1889 in St. Clair Co., IL. He and Lena had two more children -- Luella and Richard David Bradley III. Richard III, the son, died at age 5. Luella married John Planitzer, a German-born man, and had a family.

Richard David Bradley II died at age 40 on March 20, 1899 and was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery; his little son was buried beside him soon after. Their graves are not marked.
