A mass of Christian burial for Mike Popp was conducted Friday, July 24, at the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Father Gerald Guida, S.J. officiated. A parish rosary was recited Thursday, July 23 at the chapel.

Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Popp, 81, of 1310 Lowell St., Rock Springs, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where he had been a patient since July 10.

A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Popp had been in ill health the past six months.

He was born in Rock Springs on Sept. 5, 1905, the son of the late George and Barbara Danko Popp. He attended schools in Rock Springs and married the former Jennie Kudar in Rock Springs on Sept. 18, 1929. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1979.

Popp was a retired coal miner for the Union Pacific Coal Company. He worked there for 36 years. After his retirement, Popp worked as a custodian for School District No. 1.

He was a member of the SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, the United Mine Workers of America and the William Penn Association.

Survivors include one son, Michael J. Popp of Rock Springs; one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Jennie Lou) Hoover of Green River; three brothers, George Popp of Anaheim, Calif., John Popp of Salt Lake City and Joe Popp of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren, Scott Hoover and Jill Hoover, both of Green River and Michael Brian Popp of Rock Springs; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Popp was preceded in death by three brothers, Steven Popp, Gabriel Popp and Mickey Nicholas Popp and three sisters, Beatrice Popp, Mary Lawless and Elizabeth Lelis.

Pallbearers were Scott Hoover, Anton P. Amizich, Martin Amizich, Micahel B. Popp, Michael J. Popp and John G. Popp.
