She was born April 13, 1925 to Harold and Violet (Olerenshaw) Martin in Manchester, England.
Joan was a war bride marrying an American Army Air Corp Pilot Vernon H. 'Tom' Dockweiler Aug. 9, 1944. He preceded her in death June 5, 2004.
She moved to Farmington, from England after the war and worked on the farm with her husband. Later, she worked as a medical assistant and youth specialist for the Kansas Boys Home in Atchison. Joan was an animal lover, a talented and creative person, a published poet and a requested singer at weddings and social events.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Mrs. Dockweiler was a member of Farmington Christian Church and Ladies Aid, Nortonville Pleasant Grove Church, and a 4H leader.
Survivors: daughter, Ann Ballard and husband Tom, Kearney, Mo., granddaughter, Joanna Kelley, St. Louis, Mo., step-grandsons, Steve and Bill Ballard, numerous step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in England and very special friend, Pat Daniel, also of England.
Graveside services: In keeping with Mrs. Dockweiler's wishes there will only be a graveside service and interment at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham followed by visitation for family and friends at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church Ladies Aid Society or your favorite charity.
