Fred Schade of Manhattan, an executive with JPMorgan Chase, died May 7, 2010 in New York City after what his family said was "a brief and courageous battle with advanced testicular cancer." He was 30 years old. He was born in Queens, N.Y., and grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson and Somers, N.Y. He attended college at the Cooper Union on a full academic scholarship and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. After college, he ventured on a solo bicycle trip from Virginia to Utah. He held various positions at Barclay's Capital, Bear Stearns, and finally at JPMorgan Chase, where he was a vice president of credit risk analysis. "Fred was driven by a passion for life and adventure. He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro as well as various mountains in the U.S., biked extensively throughout Europe and North America, and was an avid skier," his family said. "Although Fred's accomplishments were many, he was modest and thoughtful of others. The testimonial to his easygoing and sunny personality is the large network of devoted friends he leaves behind; from kindergarten classmates, high school and college friends to colleagues at work. The group of close friends represents a diversity of backgrounds, cultures and religions. Fred enjoyed travel, music, reading, philosophy, science, and working on mathematical formulas and equations. He had just recently returned from touring England, Spain, and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco." Mr. Schade is also survived by his mother and two sisters.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Ridgefield Community Center, the Lounsbury House, on Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to Livestrong (the Lance Armstrong Foundation), www.livestrong.org.—Jack Sanders, The Ridgefield Press, May 13, 2010
