John Fred Strecker

John Fred Strecker was born June 3, 1859, in Oleschun, Russia, as the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Strecker. In 1876 he came with his parents to America and settled in Russell. About 1886 he married Miss Mary Elizabeth Michaelis. To this union there were born nine children, two of them died in infancy.

From Russell County the deceased moved to Barton County, about two miles south of Milberger. He was always healthy and of a strong disposition until the last six or eight months, when his health began to fail, but little attention was paid to this fact.

Saturday, January 27, he underwent an operation for the removal of a carbuncle, at Hoisington, but blood poison had advanced too far to be overcome. He died Sunday morning at 2:15, at the age of 57 years, 7 months and 26 days, leaving his wife, seven children, fourteen grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.

Deceased was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a devoted member of the Emanuel's Lutheran Church. Rev. F. W. Heinke, pastor at Milberger, officiating at the funeral, which took place Tuesday, January 30, and was one of the largest that was ever held there. One hundred automobiles and sixty horse drawn rigs were counted. Interment was made in Milberger Cemetery.
