NORTONVILLE --- Vernon Howard "Tom" Dockweiler, 86, Nortonville, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at the Village Villa Nursing Home in Nortonville.

Mr. Dockweiler was cremated. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2004, at Nortonville Christian Church. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will follow the inurnment at Nortonville Christian Church in Nortonville.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Jefferson County Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice. O'Trimble Funeral Home in Nortonville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dockweiler was born on Nov. 12, 1917, in Kaylor, S.D., the son of Frank and Anna M. Sebring Dockweiler. He attended Farmington, Kan., Grade School and graduated from Effingham High School in 1936. He was a member of the Farmington Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a sergeant crew chief engineer in the 8th Air Force 325th Ferrying Squadron.

He married Joan Olerenshaw of Great Britain, and they returned to Farmington to farm and raise cattle. He was also a grain inspector at the former Pillsbury Mills in Atchison, a member of the Atchison VFW No. 1175 and the Nortonville American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Joan, of the home in Nortonville; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Ann) Ballard, Kearney, Mo. ; a granddaughter, Mrs. David (Joanna) Jamison, St. Charles, Mo.; two stepgrandsons, Steve Ballard, Lathrop, Mo., and Bill Ballard, Maysville, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Wanda) Shannon, Iola; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dick and Eugene Dockweiler; and one sister, Violet Mehaffey.
