Pearl Helen Jensen of Moscow died Sunday, March 22nd at Aspen Park Healthcare Center. She was 82.

Pearl was born September 23, 1926, to Ed Brown and Lula (Weber) Brown on Big Bear Ridge near Deary. She graduated from Kendrick High School in 1944 and attended Lewis-Clark Normal School in Lewiston.

Upon graduating with her teacher's certificate, her first position was teaching in a one-room school outside of Kendrick. She then taught grade school in Burke, Idaho.

On September 15, 1951, she and Donald James Jensen were married in Kendrick and made their home in Kendrick and Troy before finally settling permanently in Moscow in 1953.

Pearl was a lifelong member of the United Church of Moscow and worked in the daycare the church operated for 22 years. She absolutely adored children and they loved her. Many of the parents and children of the daycare continued to remain in contact with Pearl until the time of her death.

The V.F.W. Auxiliary became her passion after retiring. She worked tirelessly for the organization and was nationally recognized for her efforts. She served as Idaho State President from 1992-1993 and was given the distinguished honor of "Mrs. VFW" in 1993, and volunteered for the mobile clinic for over 20 years.

Pearl held numerous state and local offices and was appointed to several national offices as well. She was also actively involved with the American Legion where she was chair of the "Voice Of Democracy" competition for many years. The NARFE (National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees) organization was also one of her volunteer projects.

Pearl was an avid Vandal Booster and attended as many activities as she could until her health made that impossible. In addition to her many volunteer activities, she loved flowers and birds and enjoyed playing the piano and accordion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don in July of 2004, and her brother, Kenneth Brown.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow with Pastor Warren Jensen of the United Church of Moscow officiating, followed by a reception at the University Inn. A private graveside will precede the service at the Moscow Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Auxiliary or to the United Church Of Moscow.
