He was born in Fresno, CA on March 3, 1916, and died in Houston under much loving care of his wife of almost 20 years, Sylvia.
He joined the Army in 1944 as a plastic surgeon and was awarded the American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal for his service.
After the war, he joined Dr. Thomas Cronin in his plastic surgery practice in Houston where he made outstanding contributions in the areas of cleft palate surgery and breast augmentation.
Dr. Brauer was preceded in death by parents Anita and Leo Brauer, and by his first wife Irene Brauer, mother of their children, and by their son Kenny Brauer.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia Brauer, his daughter and husband, their son and wife, and son, his daughter and husband her son, their daughter, his daughter and husband, and their children, and his sister and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dr. Brauer was an avid golfer, fly fisherman, hunter, and skier.
He also enjoyed volunteering as a surgeon for Operation San Jose as part of the Cronin and Brauer Cleft Palate Foundation.
He will always be remembered as a legend, mentor, friend, and gentleman, and he will be dearly missed by the many who loved him.
He donated his body to Baylor University Hospital for scientific studies.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 1, 2011, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at the St. Joseph Medical Center, George W. Strake Building, 9th floor, 1401 Saint Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas.
The family would invite those wishing to remember Dr. Brauer to send a contribution in his name to the Cronin and Brauer Foundation or a charity of their choice.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Houston Hospice, to all international and national friends, and neighbors.
