Dorothy A. Pischke, 81, of Michigan City, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011.
She was born November 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Stanley and Mary (Petras) Switt.
On May 16, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Otis, she married William Pischke who passed away September 22, 1995.
Dorothy is survived by her children Patricia (Kiel Jellison) Howard of LaPorte, Julie (Norm) Hope of McPherson, Kansas, Eric (Chris) Pischke of Michigan City , James (Janet) Pischke, her 11 grandchildren Josh (Bethany) Howard, Peter (Jaime) Howard, Betsy (Mitch) Hogge, Jake Howard, Jen (Chris) Chlumsky, Kati (Le) Norris, Allyssa Eldridge, William Pischke II, Emma, Renee, and Sarah Pischke, and honorary granddaughter Kristina Best, four great grandchildren, Peter Howard, Jr., Sophia Howard, Hannah Logan, Nora Hogge, and honorary great granddaughter Keara Best. Her brothers and sisters Eleanor Grafe of Maine, Christine (Don) Burns of Michigan, Gregory (Darlene) Switt of Wisconsin, and Robert Switt of California, her sister-in-law Jean of Pennsylvania, brother-in-law and his wife Charles and Betty Woodyard of Westville, brother-in-law Mike Milcarek of Michigan City, 21 nieces and nephews, 26 great nieces and nephews, and 11 great grandnieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death, also, by her parents, sisters Louise Milcarek and Judy Woodyard, her brother William, her nephew Michael Burns and great nephew Kaleb Switt.
Dorothy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Otis and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society there, the Westville Lions Club.
As a young woman, Dorothy worked for the Westville Post Office. Later in life, she became a professional caterer known especially for her fried chicken and polish sausage. At TP Labs in Westville she worked in the kitchen also.
A funeral mass for Dorothy will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Otis. Rev. David Gosnell will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Newhard Funeral Home in Westville on Tuesday, 4-8 PM. Rosary prayer services will be 6:30 PM Tuesday and Westville Lions Club services will be immediately following. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society in Otis or the Westville Lions Club Medical Loan Closet for medical equipment no longer in use by the original owners. Please contact the Westville Lions Club to arrange for the donation to be made in Dorothy's name.
