Robert and one of his daughters had been out celebrating his 80th birthday when he ran a stop sign that resulted in his death. He was the youngest of four kids born to Otto L and Alma Rosse Gerdes. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He later farmed and ranched with his father until Otto's death. He married once, adopted her three daughters and three sons. They adopted one son together. He is survived by his former wife, kids and seven grandkids.
