Dietrich Friedrich Kuck was born in Ross Prairie, Texas on July 12, 1848 (according to his baptismal records) to Heinrich Gerhard Kuck and Rebecka Burfzen / Lehrsen Kuck. Name was later changed from Dietrich Kuck to Richard "Dick" Cook.

He, along with his siblings Heinrich Gerhard Kuck (b. 3-1-1846), Helena Katherina Kuck (b. 1-1-1849), and Johann Friedrich Kuck (b. 4-14-1850), were all baptized on Oct. 23, 1859 at St. John Lutheran Church in Ross Prairie.

At the age of 16 Richard was attached to a Civil War Unit as a mule skinner. However, he was never registered with the Confederate Army, most likely because of his age.

On Oct. 15, 1867 he married Louise Katherine Aschenbeck at St. John's.

To this union were born 8 children:
Henrich Cook; b. about 1869
Johann Dietrich Cook; b. 6-16-1871, d. 10-8-1919
Wilhelmeana "Minnie" Cook (Sauer); b. 6-18-1873, d. 3-5-1948
Christian Friedrich Cook; b. 1-17-1876, d. 1-20-1876
Emilie Margaretha Helena Cook; b. 8-15-1877, d. 10-12-1880
Christian Charles Cook; b. 3-23-1879, d. 4-28-1935
Richard Rudolph Emil Cook; b. 11-24-1882, d. 11-18-1966
Emma Cook (Flessner); b. 11-29-1883, d. 7-14-1974

He loved horses and made his living as a farmer. Dick passed away on August 20, 1933 at the age of 85.
