Funeral services were held November 29. The Rev. Stan Cordell and the Rev. Lewis Daughenbaugh officiated. Interment was made in Clear Ridge United Methodist Cemetery.
Born January 31, 1903, in Decorum, he was the son of James and Mary Jane (Henry) Appleby. His first wife, the former Mary Miller preceded him in death in 1936. He is survived by his second wife, the former Nora Clippinger.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters: Robert of Hustontown; J. Elwood of Waterfall; Mrs. Frank (Jane) Mellott of McConnellsburg and Joanne Appleby of Hustontown. One step-son, Charles Clippinger preceded him in death. There are 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A sister, Laura Covert, and a brother, Clarence H. Appleby, both of Hustontown survive. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Appleby was of the Protestant faith. He retired in 1970 from PennDOT and was a logger and farmer.
