Walter Stockert, 82, Bismarck, died Feb. 2, 2009, in Marian Manor Care Center, Glen Ullin. Services will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 6, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Walter Stockert was born March 18, 1926, on the family farm near Solen, to Alphonse and Elizabeth (Doll) Stockert. He was the fourth oldest of 16 children. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He left the farm and moved to Bismarck in 1943 and became employed at Corwin Churchill Motors. He worked his way up to become vice president and director of service of the company. After 44 years, he retired in 1988.

On Dec. 28, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, he married Violet Ritchey. Together, they have three children.

He was a member of Church of Saint Anne, Church of the Ascension and the Bismarck Elks. He was an avid sports enthusiast and NASCAR racing fan. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed reading the Bismarck Tribune, listening to music and watching TV; especially, animal series. He loved his grandkids and visits with family and friends.

He is survived by his three children, Peggi Walters and Randy (Diana), all of Bismarck, and Rick, Mandan; six grandchildren, Michal (Mary) Sprecher, Nicole Brandner, Lynette Stockert, Rick Stockert Jr., Jennifer (Mark) Murray and Shana (Greg) Zahn; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irene (Phillip) Hoffman, Betty Craig, Rosemary (Wayne) Skiftun and Felice (Gary) Enright; four brothers, Andy (Iris), Quentin (Lori), Ted (Jan) and Patrick (Barb); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers, two sisters, one brother-in-law and one daughter-in-law.
