Country Singer. Burgess was born on June 11, 1939, in Orlando, Florida, where she later attended Stetson University, to study physical education. After graduating in 1960 she turned her interests to music after attending an Eddy Arnold concert. She at first wanted to record pop music, but on the advice of a friend, she changed to country music and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. After Burgess arrived in Nashville, Tennessee, she recorded some demos for Owen Bradley, who quickly signed her to a recording contract on the Decca Record Label. Burgess went onto have Top 20 hits including 'Don't Touch Me,' 'Misty Blue,' 'Baby,' 'Tear Time,' and 'What A Time We Will Have Over There.' She also released the albums, "Don't Touch Me" (1966), "Wilma Burgess Sings Misty Blue" (1967), "Tear Time" (1967), "The Tender Lovin' Country Sound" (1967), and "Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow" (1969), all for Decca. In 1966 she appeared in the film, "The Las Vegas Hillbillys," playing herself. In 1973 she left the Decca Record Label and joined the Shannon Record Label, which was owned by Jim Reeves Enterprises. In 1974 she recorded the Top 20 hit duet, 'Wake Me Into Love,' with Bud Logan. Burgess's last hit was in 1975. In 1978 she recorded a few less known recordings for the RCA Records Label. In 1993 while living in the house that she had bought from Charlie Dick, she found several unreleased demo recordings of Patsy Cline, which was later sold. In 1996 she re-released her hit 'Misty Blue' on the Moe's Mighty Record Label. Burgess passed away on August 26, 2003, from the effects of heart attack she suffered a few days earlier. She was 64 years old.
