World War II Medal of Honor recipient. Muller entered the service from New York and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, Company B, 305th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division at the battle of Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands. On May 15 and 16, 1945, near Ishimmi, his platoon was stopped by deadly Japanese fire from a defended ridge. Alone, he charged the enemy and drove them into the open where his squad shot them down. The next day, the enemy counterattacked to retake the position. As he moved into his foxhole shared with two other men, an enemy attacker threw a grenade amidst them. He quickly threw himself over it, sacrificing his life to save his comrades.
