They departed Amsterdam, Netherlands and arrived in NYC April 21, 1890. Antje had known a man named Rein Reitsma for about 1 1/2 years in the Netherlands prior to him traveling to the USA in 1889. She married Rein May 3, 1890, less than two weeks after her arrival. They settled in Hackensack, NJ. Antje's mother, Hiltje, also married shortly after arriving in the USA to Jakob Half Sept 13, 1890. According to a family letter by Antje's son John, it was Antje's brother Pieter who had inspired Rein to travel to the USA and settle there.
Rein and Antje (who used the name Annie in the US) had the following children: John b. Sept 22, 1894; Henry b. June 14, 1897; Marguerite (married name Brown) b. June 5, 1899; Helen (married names Rausenberger and Bang) b. Jan 7, 1901; Rein Jr. b. Feb 10, 1903.
