A graduate of Lasell and Pacific Oaks Colleges, Mrs. Ryan also attended Parsons School of Design and studied art under Alex Vilumsons. Her paintings are in collections around the United States and she also exhibited in Germany.
While a designer of silk scarves for Vera Neumann at Printex, Barbara married inventor Jack Ryan. They moved to Los Angeles when Jack joined Mattel.
She was active in WAIF (World Adoption International Fund) and worked as a Therapeutic Companion through the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic.
She is survived by daughters Ann and Diana, grandchildren Beth, Eric, Allegra and Peter, great-granddaughter Ava, and siblings Priscilla, Jane and Bill. Barbara was predeceased by her sister Elinor and ex-husband Jack.
A memorial will be held in Chatham, MA in the summer of 2012 (DTBD).
