Miss Emma S. Bowers, eighty-six, Lancaster R8, died yesterday at 9:10 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she had been a patient since last Tuesday, when she fractured her left hip in a fall at home. Dr. Charles P. Stahr, deputy coroner, who said Miss Bowers died of a heart condition aggravated by the hip injury, issued a verdict of accidental death. Miss Bowers was a retired seamstress, having been employed at the Watt and Shand Store for a number of years. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Swarr Bowers, and was a member of the Centerville Evangelical United Brethren Church and Sunday School and the Missionary Society of the church. Surviving are a brother, Harry S. Bowers, with whom she resided, and several nieces and nephews. (Lancaster New Era - Aug 17, 1950)
