Mrs. Mehr, 81, died Oct. 15, 2011, at her home. She was born in Lincoln County on June 28, 1930, to Willie Sig Calcote and Nellie Belle Britt Calcote.

Kathryn was extremely active throughout her life, giving selfless service and caring for others first. She was highly organized and a natural leader with many gifts. She was a talented musician and soprano. At the age of 19 she made a professional vocal recording. She has shared her musical talents throughout her life, as soloist and also as choir director and music director in the church. She was a very generous hostess and a great cook. To visit Kathryn was to be well fed. Family favorites included her lemon meringue pie, cheesecake and rolls. All felt welcome in her home, including the many cats and dogs who found food and love at her back door.

Kathryn's faith in God and desire to serve Him shaped her life. She served actively in the Mormon church wherever she lived, and served as Relief Society president several times. Most recently, she taught gospel doctrine classes and has served as a temple missionary and as early morning seminary teacher.

She loved her Mississippi home and heritage. All who knew Kathryn can picture her on her riding mower. She loved taking care of the yard and gardens in her favorite corner on earth.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Mehr.

Survivors are her husband, Daniel Mehr; son, Daniel Stanley Mehr II and wife Rebecca, of Highland, Utah; daughters, Judith Ann Mehr, of Salt Lake City, Patricia Kay Nielsen and husband, Jan, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sandra Lynn Newton and husband, Mark, of Springville, Utah; brother, Ralph Calcote, of Brookhaven; sisters, Christine Dickey and husband, Myron, of Bountiful, Utah, and Helen Huff and husband, Rayford, of Brookhaven; 13 grandchildren, J'Lene Platt, Aaron Nielsen, Kevin Nielsen, Karen Doshier, Daniel Mehr III, Steven Mehr, Melanie Maxwell, Matthew Mehr, Andrew Mehr, Michelle Hall, Heather Newton, Jessica Bishop and Carly Hernandez; and 23 great-grandchildren.
