Please add biography:

Frank K. and Mary Machacek. Frank K. Machacek was born in 1877 and lived on the Veseli farm of his parents, Frank and Anna, until his marriage to Mary Skluzacek on January 1, 1897. They settled on a farm in Erin Township, 3 miles south of Lonsdale. They bought this 104 acres of woods for $300. They first built a log granary (still standing) in which they lived until they were able to build a house later. The next 22 years found them sawing trees, sawing lumber, and grubbing land until there was mostly tillable land when their oldest son, Frank W., was married in 1919 and took over the homestead. The elder Frank and his wife then bought 120 acres in Forest Township where they lived until son, Joseph, was married in 1923 and took over that farm. Then they "retired" to Lonsdale. Frank and Mary had 5 children. Their oldest, Frank M., was born in 1898 and married Josephine Pumper in 1919. Their children are Elsie (Mrs. Blasé Bisek) who has 3 children, Larry, Patricia, and Rebecca; Agnes (Mrs. Wencl Kratochvil) has 6 children, James, Carol, Deborah, Barbara, John and Theresa; Bernice (Mrs. George Zelenka) has 3 daughters, Julie, Joan, and Nanette; and Norbert (Mary Alice Voracek) who has 3 children, Diane, Dwayne and Douglas. The 3 daughters all live in the New Prague area while Norbert lives in Forest City, IA. Frank died of leukemia on October 3, 1951. The following September, during the polio epidemic, Norbert was stricken with bulbar polio. Josephine now lost even the help of her 15-year old son in the operation of the farm; but, with the help of neighbors and relatives who gathered with their tractors and equipment, the harvesting and plowing was completed that fall. She remained on the farm until it was sold to Francis Vozejpka in 1963 when she moved to Lonsdale. Emil was born in 1899 (died December 1975). He married Mary Douda and they farmed adjacent to the family homestead. Their children are Myles (married Cecelia Malecha); Raymond (Florence Tiougan, St. Charles, MN), both of Faribault, and Helen 9jack Crawford) of Owatonna. Helen was stricken with polio at the same time as her cousin Norbert. She spent more than 1 year at the Sister Kenny Institute where she met her future husband. The grandchildren are Barbara, Michael and Robert, children of Raymond and Florence. Emil served as Rice County Commissioner, 5th District, for 24 years. Joseph (born December 31, 1901) was married to Emma Sevcik on October 29, 1923. Their history is in the Forest Township area. Mary was married to Wm. C. Sevcik (brother of Emma) on April 19, 1926. They settled on a farm in Erin Township which their son, Richard, now owns. Richard is married to Rosemary Koenig and their 7 children are Catherine, Vernon, Mary, Linda, Larry, Jerry, Allen and Mike. Richard's sister, Lillian, married George J. Skluzacek and their children are Lloyd, Jerry, Donald, Ricky, Randy, Ann, and Mary Beth. The youngest of the 5 Machacek children was Emma. She married John J. Malecha on October 4, 1932. They settled on a farm across the road from her parents original homestead and now her brother's home. In 1958 they sold their farm to Sidney Vikla and moved to Northfield where John was employed at Carleton College for 15 years and "Emily" worked at the Northfield Country Club for more than 8 years until they both retired. They had 2 daughters. Ruth is married to Richard Matson; they live in Northfield and have 4 children, Colleen, Richard Jr., Jennifer and Andrew. Rita is married to Jim McAloon. They live in Denver, CO, and have no children. Frank K. Machacek was one of the early pioneers of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lonsdale, serving on the original building committee. His sons, Frank and Joseph, would in turn serve on the building committee when that original church was later replaced. Frank had also served as a parish trustee for many years. He died March 18, 1939, and his wife, Mary, died on July 12, 1950.
