Sp/4 James Arhtur Reiter, was born January 10, 1952 at New Prague, MN. He was confirmed in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church at Wausau, Wisconsin and he graduated from the Henderson High School, Henderson, MN on May 28, 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 19, 1970 and served in Vietnam for 10 months. On April 14 he had returned home for a leave of 35 days having only 22 months left in Service. Following his leave, he had been scheduled to report to Fort Carson, Colorado.
He was killed in a one-car accident on April 25th 1972. He died of apparent head injuries and possible drowning after his car overturned, pinning him inside, the accident occured south of Henderson along Highway 93.
Military funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at the Zion United Church of Christ in Le Sueur, MN with the Rev John Heinl officiating. Burial followed in Mound Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug Thomas, Greg Thomas, Pat Dhaene, Bill Dhaene, Roger Brandt and Lyle Tiegs.
He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Reiter about 4 years ago.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Mr and Mrs Roy Heldberg of Le Sueur, Mn
