A retired self-employed cabinet maker, member of Local 1098 and longtime resident of Erwinville, he was 87, born in St. Landry Parish. He died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at Charlynn Rehab and Nursing Center, Winnsboro. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen, on Thursday, Jan. 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Bishop Virgil Harris and the Rev. Curtis Harris. Interment in Erwinville Baptist Church Cemetery, Erwinville. Survived by his two daughters, Sadie Courville and husband Jerome "Tip," of Lobdell, and Pretha Gail Lee and husband Chad, of Winnsboro; son, Emic "Rick" J. Richard Jr., of Gonzales; 18 grandchildren, Amber Courville Bizette and husband Brian, Sharie Richard, Jerome Courville Jr. "Dave" and wife Becky, Melissa Johnson and husband Seth, Brooke, Bryce, Victoria, Mendy, Mary, William, Coliesa and husband Clyde, Hannah, Sadie Gail, Lisa, Jennifer McMurray, C.J. Lee and Erika Lee, Kaydelynn Lee; nine great-grandchildren, Brittany Shelton, Blair Shelton, Bliss Shelton, Noah Johnson, Bryson Courville, Beaux Courville, Emma Claire Courville, Charley Renee Courville and Lisa Koesling. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene Mouton Richard; parents, John Baptist and Margaret LeBlanc Richard; and sister, Amy R. Dugas.
