Jacob was born in Buchberg, Switzerland to Balthasar and Regula (Zimmerman) Fehr. He married Anna Matzinger and had Jacob, Anna, Susanna, Baltice, and Conrad. Jacob worked as a blacksmith. The couple along with their children came to the US in 1866 and had one more son, John. They lived near Bloomer, WI in Auburn township in Chippewa County and farmed. Anna died in 1869, and Jacob married Wilhelmina Conrad and had Wilhelmina, Albertina (Dena), Louisa, and Herman. Wilhelmina died in 1880, and Jacob married Anna Wirth. After four more children, Fredrick, Mary, Bertha, and Jacob, the couple moved to Yuba County, California in 1889. Jacob farmed in California.
