PENDER, Neb. -- Edith Adeline Kai, 94, of Pender died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Pender Community Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender, with the Rev. Norman Nelson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender.

Edith Adeline (Case) Kai was born June 20, 1907, in Mondamin, Iowa, to David and Bessie (Summers) Case. She was baptized on March 10, 1940, and confirmed March 14, 1940, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender. She had lived in the Pender area since the ago of 2. She attended school at District 37.

On Aug. 25, 1925, she married John Kai in Fergus Falls, Minn. They farmed east of Pender until moving into town in 1959.

She was a member of Thurston American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis and her husband, Emery Breithbarth of West Point, Neb., and Bonnie Simonsen and Charlotte Roth, both of Pender; two sons, Dale and his special friend, Aggie Deal, and Bill and his wife, Linda, all of South Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Diann of Pender; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; a son, Jack; an infant daughter, Charlene; a son-in-law, Gordon Simonsen; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Kai; a grandson, Rick Kai; two sisters and a brother.
