CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- Heiko Wolf Pein, 67, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 3, 1943, in Bremerhaven, Germany, Mr. Pein was the son of Elfriede Herta (Wormke) Pein-Pilsbury, of Frostburg, and the late Adolf Wilhelm August Pein. He was also preceded in death by a stepfather, Raymond C. Pilsbury.

Mr. Pein retired from the United States Army as Lieutenant Colonel serving in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He also retired as Vice Principal from the Department Juvenile Services. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172, and co-owner of the Tree House Toy Shop.

Mr. Pein is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margaret A. (Atkinson) Pein; his daughter, Jamie C. Pein, of Cumberland; his son, Samuel H. Pein and his wife Rebecca, of Ravenswood, W.Va.; his sister, Anke Nickols and her husband Robert, of Panama City, Fla.; as well as his grandchildren, Wesley Pein, of Cumberland, Jonas Pein and Kenzie Pein, both of Ravenswood, W.Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at noon with the Rev. Rebecca Vardeman officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 172 Honor Guard.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1050 East Industrial Boulevard, Unit 3, Cumberland, MD 21502.
